2013 University Of Montana Graduation

UM Commencement 2011

May 18th Missoula will once again be hosting family and friends in celebration of the U of M’s class of 2013 graduation commencement ceremony. This ceremony takes place in the Washington Grizzly Stadium, making for a breath taking view Mount Sentinel and famous M trail for a backdrop as you watch your graduate complete their journey. The weekend is packed with celebration festivities both pre and post the general commencement. Along with all of these hosted events at the University the city itself offers and endless amount of events, making sure there is something for everyone!

Here is the general commencement schedule of events at a glance;

-7:25 a.m. ASUM Transportation begins continuous bus service to campus from Park‐N‐Ride locations – East Broadway Route and South Route (Dornblaser Field). Seemap on Commencement website.
-7:30 a.m. Coffee with the Class of 2013 –Hosted by President Royce C. Engstrom. Free continental breakfast for degree candidates/graduates,their families and faculty (University Center Atrium).
-8 a.m. Gates open at Washington‐Grizzly Stadium.
-8:45 a.m. Degree candidates/graduates assemble for line‐up on the Oval.
-9:30 a.m. All guests should be seated in the west seating area of Washington‐Grizzly Stadium.
-9:30 a.m. Faculty, degree candidates/graduates and platform party begins processional from the Oval to their respective stadium seating areas.
-10 a.m. Central ceremony begins(Washington‐Grizzly Stadium).
-11:15 a.m. Central ceremony concludes with platform party,faculty and students recessing. After recessional, guests disperse to attend ceremonies that follow.
-11:15 a.m. Commencement Brunch begins at University Center Food Court dining room.

Nature seems to roll out the carpet for this event, with the awakening of spring flowers, revived green slopes of the Missoula valley, and the rivers coming to life from the winter snow melts. Showing off the beautiful displays that Montana has to offer anyone who visits. Plowing Going to the Sun Highway Has Begun!

You know that spring is here when we start getting updates on the progress of plowing Going to the Sun Road in Glacier National Park!

Being a Montana native, I still am amazed how they are able to maintain this highway so that we all can look in awe at the beautiful country we live/travel in!

 

The question asked all the time is “when do you think Going to the Sun is going to be open”? That is the million dollar question, because it is always so much fun to be one of the first to go over the highway after a long winter slumber, but the answer is not so easy. All I can say is “they are working as fast as they can, but Mother nature always has her own plan”.

For those seeking the answer to this million dollar question, the best thing to do is to “like” Glacier National Park on Facebook and watch the progress, it will make the trip so much more impressive when you know how hard it is to clear and repair it every Spring.

Missoula Outdoor Concerts at Osprey Ball Park

We are continuing with our series on 2011 Summer concerts in Missoula, Montana.

The venue location that is becoming a favorite among concert fans is also home to our local Missoula Osprey Professional Baseball Club, Ogren Park at Allegiance Field. This newly completed stadium is located along the Clark Fork River and the wonderful Clark Fork Riverfront Trail. The park is perfectly designed so that when you are sitting in the grandstands you not only get a “birds eye” view of the field, but also have a spectacular view of the river just beyond the out field. The park is also home to a couple of true Osprey that have found their nesting grounds high in left field. This gives fans and concert goers a chance to watch the birds fishing in the river and bringing to back to the chicks in the nest, all for no extra cost.

From the park you can join into the Clark fork Riverfront Trail. This trails meanders right through the downtown area, making a perfect way to connect to a pre-concert dinner in some of our wonderful downtown restaurants.

This Summers Outdoor Concert at Ogren Park will is a sure hit among concert fans. On August 2nd Willie Nelson with join with Lyle Lovett and his Large Band to entertain all ages. Tickets can be purchased through Missoula Osprey’s website.

Updates on the Gibson Mansion Bed and Breakfast Gardens

Sad to say the tulips season at the Mansion is coming to a close. This year was spectacular with the addition of almost 800 bulbs in the new cutting gardens along with the established 600 plus in the back gardens. The guests enjoyed overlooking all the colors and varieties while they relaxed in the library, as well as enjoying the fresh cut ones in their rooms.

 

With our temperatures warming signs of summer are now entering the gardens. Just this week the iris have begun their wonderful display, this is a photo of one of our varieties that a guest donated from her garden to ours. What a treasure! The Lilacs are openings and enhancing not only the sense of sight but also the sense of smell. Mixed with our fresh Montana air, it doesn’t get much better.

This year we added a new peony bed that greet our guests as they enter the drive way. With 4 varieties and colors it is a wonderful array of color. Pictures just do not do them justice, you will just have to make a trip to Missoula and see them for yourselves. Don’t wait to long….or you will miss them.

One of the locations for this summers schedule is at our local Big Sky Brewery. The brewery is once again hosting outdoor concerts in their own backyard… literally. Past concerts held here have been a great place to relax in the Montana summers, enjoy a local brew, all while listening live to great artists like BB King.

Big sky brewery is bringing back this popular venue site and have a loaded summer concert series. This Memorial day weekend was the kick off of this summer series, which preformed to a sold out crowd. So check out the the concert series for this summer and plan early.

 

Beautiful day for University of Montana Graduation

Wanted to share a beautiful spring morning photo taken on the University of Montana campus this graduation weekend. The photo shows the tower of the Main Hall with Mount Sentinel in the back ground.

The main hall is located at the base of Mount Sentinel and the popular “M” trailhead . The hall is one of the many structures on campus designed by architect AJ Gibson, same architect of Gibson Mansion Bed and Breakfast.

Earth Friendly Lodging in Missoula

In honor of Earth Day we thought we would let our readers know that Gibson Mansion Bed and Breakfast is always looking at ways to decrease our footprint.

Four years ago we started recycling all table water from our meals that we served. We were amazed at the amount of water that we were able to re-use to water house plants and outside planters. This made us passionate about trying not to “throw” water down the drain but instead continue the life of it by giving plants a drink, or in some cases refilling the Mansion Dog’s water dish. We now are able to water the majority of our 18+ planters/hanging baskets that we have with this recycled water.

So this year to continue our recycling water idea we have installed 4 wine barrels to collect our rain water from the gutters. We are excited to see how much water we can recapture to water the gardens through out our summer months.

Gibson Mansion is committed to saving our natural resources and limit the amount of waste we produce. We hope that when you are in Missoula you will be able to stay with us and enjoy our natural beauty as well as join with us in recycling and leaving a smaller carbon footprint.
